A brutalist wall vase from the 1960s, signed Wall Metalwork, made of copper with a distinctive warm brown hue and covered entirely with a repoussé texture that creates a pattern of small scales. The dynamic effect of the surface results from its irregular texture – the raised parts reflect light with a satin sheen, while the recesses remain matte, emphasizing the depth and complexity of the material. The elongated body, tapering gently towards the top, is mounted on a slender black leg with a round, powder-coated steel base. The sharp contrast between the copper cylinder and the matte black emphasizes the vertical shape of the vase. The wide opening (10 cm) allows for the easy use of larger plant compositions. The surface of the body is uniform and carefully crafted, with no visible structural joints or welds. The object communicates strength through the sincerity of the material and its expressive texture, fitting in with the aesthetics of post-war brutalism, where austerity is juxtaposed with a craftsman's sense of form. The scaly pattern evokes images of rocks and natural armor; fiery copper reflections change with the lighting, giving the object a dynamic quality. The vase is not so much an imposing accent as a distinct companion to everyday spaces – present, but not absorbing. It will look good in the living room, placed solo on a dark wood console or stone countertop, where the embossed copper will contrast or harmonize with organic materials. It can be paired with matte ceramics or glass with irregular edges, as well as ascetic black metal decorations. Interiors decorated in shades of graphite, dark green, or earthy browns will emphasize the warm tones of the vase, and soft, yellowish light will bring out the nuances of its texture and volume.
