The Murano vase was created using the reticello technique and is an example of Italian glassmaking craftsmanship from the 1960s.
Its slender, proportional silhouette is based on a raised, round base and topped with a domed lid with a carved knob. The body is made of milky, iridescent glass with a satin finish and a spiral texture, emphasized by shimmering pearl threads embedded in the glass mass. The whole is decorated with a dense, hand-painted floral composition in shades of brown, orange, green, and cobalt, with noticeable details of brush strokes and layers of color.
The elements of the vessel are joined without visible seams, which gives the structure a uniform and high-quality form. The glass vase plays with light – the spiral structure of the glass gently catches the eye, creating the illusion of movement trapped within a matte, satin surface. Hand-painted ornaments, spread around the body, arrange themselves like fabric, softly enveloping the form. This object communicates the calm and discipline of Italian modernism, while emphasizing the craftsmanship and individual repertoire of decorations developed by the masters of Murano.
The vase works well as a distinctive feature on a console table, chest of drawers, or in a living room display case – especially when surrounded by light-colored stone or wood surfaces with subtle coloring. It can be combined with simple, minimalist vases, transparent vessels, or wall art in subdued colors. In mid-century and contemporary interiors, it will create an interesting contrast to the clean lines of furniture and bold textiles.
