A very attractive pair of prints from Sigmund Freudenberger's (1745-1801) gallant cycle, after compositions created for the publisher Jean-Henri Eberts.
The subjects, "The Rising" and "The Setting," belong to the "Suite of Prints to Serve as a History of Manners and Costume in 18th-Century France," published in Paris around 1774-1775, and later included in the "Monument of Physical and Moral Costume" of the late 18th century.
The sheets are therefore engravings after Freudenberger, probably printed in the 18th century (or, at the very least, 19th-century proofs from the same copper plates). This piece has an attribution mark,
