An elegant turn-of-the-century revolving bookcase, showcasing the refined aesthetic of the Sheraton Revival period (c. 1890–1910). Unlike the more utilitarian oak slat-sided models often found in commercial offices of the era, this piece was clearly designed for a gentleman’s library or a formal drawing room.
The piece is constructed from rich mahogany, distinguished by a striking band of satinwood inlay (marquetry) framing the top surface. The design features a multi-tier structure with solid wood partial side panels, offering a more substantial and architectural look than open-slat versions. It rests on a turned mahogany pedestal base supported by a heavy cast-iron mechanism marked "NEW C.P. CO", ensuring stability and smooth rotation even when fully loaded with books.
A handsome, functional antique perfect for the serious bibliophile or anyone looking to add a touch of "Dark Academia" sophistication to a reading nook.
