This piece was purchased at an antique auction in Moscow in 1981. The heavy dark wood painted frame encases a piece of an antique china plate, beautifully painted in blues and yellows.
There are two likely possibilities for where the framed porcelein was made, based upon the style and colors:
Imperial Porcelain Factory
The style aligns with Imperial revival motifs produced in the late 1800s, especially for decorative plaques and palace wares.
Kuznetsov Porcelain
Kuznetsov factories produced large quantities of high-quality hand-painted porcelain with classical imagery for both domestic and export markets.
Inset for China piece is 5 1/2" x 1 1/2".
