An early 20th century Turkish Ghiordes rug. Plum field, mint green medallion and border with gold accents.
Measures: 12'3'' x 15'7'' circa 1920
Since the beginning of their production in the 18th century, rugs from the Anatolian town, Ghiordes have mostly been known for their rectilinear, colorful, multi-bordered antique prayer patterns. These rugs often also tend to have open fields with stylized architectural motifs or medallions that are found on 16th and 17th century Ottoman court rugs.
