A beautiful, funnel-shaped vase with a ribbed, strongly flared body, made of rather thick black opaline glass with light purple highlights. Entirely hand-carved, it was created in the Art Nouveau style by Josef Hoffmann, a celebrated Austrian artist and designer, in the very early decades of the 20th century, a reference to the Austrian-Viennese Secession movement. The beauty and greatest value of this piece, in our opinion, lies primarily in the perfection of its lines. Note the quality of the ribbing, which is entirely hand-crafted. Such ribbing is particularly challenging on the small, concave base, as is the case on the raised ring between the base and the mouth, with three lines of facets: fan-shaped at the top and bottom and diamond-shaped at the center. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
