A beautiful pair of glazed and vitrified ceramic amphorae, entirely hand-decorated with lightly raised decorations depicting two lions of St. Mark, amphorae with flowers, and Raphaelesque motifs, in white against a beautiful red background. The pair's style is classical, reminiscent of ancient Roman or Greek jugs, a model later revived during the Renaissance. Made by Mario Sambuco for the "Maioliche Deruta" factory, founded in 1910, which in 1925 merged with Cima (Italian Consortium of Artistic Maioliche), which later incorporated most of the Deruta and Perugia factories.
