Item :
Delightful, wide-ribbed bottle in Murano blown sommerso pulegoso glass, crafted by joining amber glass on the inside, obtained by adding sulfur and carbon oxides, with clear glass on the outside. It features a spherical stopper, also crafted with four rounded ribs, like the main body of the bottle. Pulegoso glass is obtained by passing the glass over numerous pointed surfaces, then covering it with another layer of glass, thus forming numerous internal air bubbles where the first layer of glass was touched by the iron points. This is also a very thick glass, and the two layers of glass are joined using the sommerso technique. The bottle is unsigned but, in our opinion, easily attributed to Flavio Poli and dates to around 1930, crafted in the Art Deco style. The bottle was finally embellished with a silver leaf decoration in the shape of palm leaves along the four broad ribs. This technique departs from the classic artistic canons of Murano glass and is much closer to French, Bohemian, or Austrian Secession glass. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that foreign glassmakers commissioned a number of these bottles from Flavio Poli and then finished them in silver leaf. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
