This sink, along with a couple others, came out of a house in Portland, Maine that was being remodeled. We have been having a string of good luck lately with the sinks we're acquiring, and this one continues the trend. It is in amazing condition for its 106 years, with virtually no blemishes to be found beyond the ones that were created by the manufacturing process. There are numerous imperfections under the clear enamel coating that are part of the make up of the sink in the form of small "dots", and a couple rust spots. Detailed top to bottom conditions: The faucets are also in much better than average condition. Aside from a long ago repaired crack that is just barely visible on the left faucet handle, the porcelain is nice on both with no damage or wear present. There is some slight discoloration, but it does not stand out, and both handles are lacking the small set screws. They can be used as they are, but at this point, the handles are removable. The metal portions are corrosion free with nickel plating that is very good overall, and both of the porcelain escutcheons are in mint condition with no cracks, chips or other issues. This sink has not been used for decades, thus the faucet has not been recently tested with water. The turning of the handles does, however, feel correct. The Hoffman & Billings (pat: 1911) waste tube is in the best condition of any we have dealt with thus far. The porcelain on top is fine, and the metal is in good shape all the way down. The spout is very nice. There are some light blemishes, otherwise it looks fine. The horizontal surface where the faucet resides and around the basin is excellent. There is no damage, discoloration or wear and barely a scratch to be found, save for a tiny 0.05" chip on the front edge, 7" from the right side that required a micrometer to measure. The basin has a nice glossy finish down the sides to the bottom. There is a very small 0.06" chip slightly left of center at the bottom, otherwise all is very good. The strainer flange has some deterioration to the plating at the front, otherwise it's good. The entire vertical outside of the sink is excellent with no damage or wear found. The underside of the sink is also in fine shape, with no issues. There is no damage or wear, and all looks good. The plumbing pieces will need to be at least tightened before they see any water, but otherwise they look fine. Both faucet pipes have a spot of what looks like solder. These may possibly be old repairs (or not). The bolt that connects the pedestal to the basin is present, but the nut and washer are not. The pedestal is excellent overall. There was no damage or wear found on any of the sides, top or bottom, and the interior looks nice. The entire piece inside and out has a glossy finish with virtually no blemishes present. Please see the pictures for further details.
These are some examples of blemishes found that are not damage, but were created when the sink was produced:
What looks like a dash mark on the horizontal surface 3" from the left side near the front
A small blemish 2" to the left of the drain, and one a couple inches up behind the drain
A small white spot on the horizontal surface 4" from the left side near the front
A tiny "ding" on the horizontal surface 2" from the left side near the front
What looks like a dash mark on the vertical front, 3" from the right side
4 tiny white dots in front of, and to the right of the right faucet
A faint rust area 11" on the front edge, 11" from the right side
Black dots on the back of the right escutcheon
A scuff mark on the left, rear corner
A "crack" in the base of pedestal
*** This piece is described in greater detail than is normally found, as the camera likes to hide blemishes with items such as this. There are pictures included with and without the use of flash in an attempt to show the details. The description is accurate to the best of our knowledge, and areas are pointed out that may look nearly flawless in the pictures.
