Originally a drum. Hand carved out of a single piece of teak wood and finished with a natural oil revealing the unique wood grain. Circa 1900. Full dimensions; The top is 12” diameter and the bottom is 7” diameter. The center 13.5” diameter x 40” Tall. This antique container was hand made in the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. A beauty of things unconventional. It is the opposite of vulgarity. The costs of achieving this kind of minimalism are seemingly inconsistent with its mission of aesthetic humility.
