Crafted in France circa 1870 and made of solid metal with a rich dark bronze patina, the figure depicts the renowned mathematician, physicist, and philosopher holding a book close to his chest while gesturing thoughtfully with his right hand. The detailed rendering of the scholar’s long robe, buttoned doublet, lace cuffs, and academic cap reflects the refined artistry of the period. Resting on a stepped rectangular plinth, this finely modeled statue captures Pascal’s contemplative spirit and intellectual grace.
Blaise Pascal (1623–1662) was one of France’s greatest minds, celebrated for his pioneering work in mathematics, geometry, and fluid mechanics, as well as his profound contributions to philosophy and theology. His famous Pensées and invention of the early mechanical calculator, the Pascaline, secured his legacy as a central figure of the 17th-century intellectual world.
The sculpture is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and could easily be adapted as a unique table lamp. Note: half of the right index finger is missing.
