This particular box … Read more In the bottom right corner of the lid, the artist's name is inscribed: "Морозов В.Б." (Morozov V.B.). This particular box is highly functional because of its size. It is also beautifully painted with many subtle details. The lovely "cowhearder" is wearing a beautiful folk dress and has an enchanting appearance similiar to the fairytales but in this painting the story is a more realistic landscape design. A peaceful place you could still wander in Russia before Communism and Stalin's reign. Early 1900's.

The bottom is stamped "Made in USSR," indicating it was made before the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union.

Fedoskino boxes are unique because they are painted with oil paints (unlike other schools that use egg tempera) and often use reflective materials like mother-of-pearl or metallic leaf under the paint to create a glowing effect. See less
