This expressive signed sculpture depicts a dramatic classical scene of a youthful figure restraining a rearing horse, a subject rooted in Greco-Roman mythology and academic European sculpture traditions. The composition captures a strong sense of movement, tension, and anatomical detail, with the horse rearing upward as the youth pulls firmly at the reins.
The sculpture is finished in a warm bronze-tone patina with naturally aged surface variation, enhancing its antique character. The rocky base is organically modeled and signed, adding to its authenticity and decorative appeal. The underside reveals casting characteristics consistent with early to mid-20th-century decorative sculpture production.
Please note: the sculpture is missing the horse’s tail and the front portion of one of the horse’s front legs, both clearly visible and accounted for in pricing. These losses do not compromise the stability of the piece and remain visually unobtrusive when displayed from the front or sides.
A compelling decorative object well suited for collectors of classical sculpture, vintage bronzes, or mythological subjects.
Estimated Year of Manufacture: Circa 1920s–1940s.
(Consistent with cast decorative sculpture inspired by academic European models, likely produced for the home or collector market.)
