Grossi became renowned throughout Europe for his bold political humour and his ability to transform complex geopolitical tensions into vivid and theatrical scenes. The print shows a dramatic confrontation between a Russian general and his Ottoman counterpart, each moving miniature soldiers across a tabletop battlefield. The expressive faces, exaggerated gestures and meticulous hand-colouring combine to create a lively and humorous narrative that remains instantly engaging nearly 150 years later.
