This optical vase belongs to the most recognisable group of sculptural glass designs created by Sylwester Drost for the Ząbkowice glassworks during the 1970s, a period in which Polish art glass developed a distinctive modernist language combining strong geometry with optical depth.
The deeply cut vertical structure creates a powerful optical rhythm across the surface. As light passes through the thick ruby glass, the internal layers refract and multiply reflections, producing a dynamic architectural play of light and shadow.
Works by Sylwester Drost have gained increasing recognition among collectors of European studio glass, particularly the optical designs produced for the Ząbkowice glassworks, which stand among the most characteristic examples of modern Polish glass from the late twentieth century.
Ruby coloured versions of this model appear less frequently on the market and are especially valued for the dramatic depth of colour and the intensity of the optical effect.
With its compact architectural form and luminous ruby tone, the vase functions both as a decorative vessel and as a sculptural glass object ideally suited for contemporary interi
This piece works beautifully as a standalone sculptural accent where its optical structure can fully interact with natural light. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
