Origin italy period 1960s/1970s designer carlo moretti (1934–2008) was a master glassmaker and innovator born on the island of murano, in the heart of the venetian glassmaking tradition, and a central figure in the evolution of murano artistic glass in the post-war period. Passionate about art, culture and design, moretti combined his historical knowledge of glassmaking with a sensitivity for contemporary language, giving life to a production that balanced formal rigor and technical experimentation. Together with his brother giovanni, he founded the carlo moretti company in 1958, a company that stood out for its essential lines, crystalline quality and research into materials, conquering space in major international museums and private collections. His work was not limited to production: moretti was also a protagonist in the modernization of murano techniques and the spread of murano glass throughout the world, pursuing a balance between artisan memory and contemporary design that marked one of the most significant seasons of 20th-century italian glassmaking. After his sudden death in 2008, giovanni continued the activity until his death, consolidating the brothers' legacy as a reference for modern glass.
