Produced circa 1910, this … Read more This magnificent two-handled vase is an authentic specimen of the "damascus" decor from plateelbakkerij zuid-holland (pzh). Produced circa 1910, this piece belongs to the most prestigious period of dutch "plateel" (hand-painted pottery). The damascus pattern was a revolutionary design that looked eastward for inspiration, blending the intricate botanical geometry of 16th-century iznik pottery with the flowing lines of the european art nouveau movement.

artistic design:
the vase features an elegant amphora silhouette with two refined handles. The hand-painted decor is executed in the traditional damascus palette: rich cobalt blues, sage greens, and the iconic "tomato-red" ochre. Each botanical tendril and geometric medallion is applied with needle-point precision, a testament to the master decorators employed by pzh at the turn of the century. The high-gloss glaze provides a luminous depth that makes the colors glow under light.


condition & provenance:
the vase is in remarkable condition for its 115-year age. It retains a brilliant shine and crisp colors. There is a minor, stable manufacturing imperfection in the glaze on the inner side but does not detract from the exterior display or structural integrity.
