This monumental and exquisite sculptural "gondola" cup centerpiece (extraordinarily long, 62 cm) is crafted freehand in murano artistic glass using the sommerso technique. It is attributed to master glassmaker flavio poli (the longtime artistic director of seguso vetri d'arte) and dates back to the 1960s/70s. The piece features a sinuous, organic wave-like line, wrapped in pure, thick crystal that displays an intense palette of colors: from the smoky purple (amethyst) of the upper portion to the azure/electric blue of the solid base, creating a majestic play of light and refraction.
details and specifications:
type: monumental centerpiece / large sculptural "gondola" bowl
subject / style: fluid wave shape with two-tone sommerso glass – organic modern style / italian modernism / murano art glass
attribution / origin: attributable to flavio poli (seguso vetri d'arte – murano, venice)
materials / technique: solid murano glass, freehand crafted using the sommerso technique (smoky purple, amethyst, light blue, and clear crystal)
period: circa 1960s/1970s (estimated date)
dimensions (w x d x h): 62 x 17 x 16.5 cm

excellent vintage condition. The glass is exceptionally clear, brilliant, and perfectly intact, free of chips, cracks, or hairlines. It shows only slight, natural signs of wear on the base, fully consistent with the age and considerable weight of the work.
