Work of exceptional rarity and dramatic impact: a monumental centerpiece (or "gondola" bowl) in sommerso Murano glass, attributed to master glassmaker Flavio Poli (the longtime artistic director of Seguso Vetri d'Arte), dating back to the 1960s/1970s.
What makes this piece unique is not only its refined color combination, but also its extraordinary size, 62 cm long, a size that is extremely rare to find on the market.
Subject and Style: The work features a free-form, elongated, and sinuous form reminiscent of the hull of a gondola or a stylized wave, typical of the organic design of Italian modernism. The technique used is the precious "sommerso": a colored glass core is immersed in successive layers of clear crystal. In this case, the glassmaking mastery is expressed in the tonal transition from a deep smoky purple (amethyst) at the top to a brilliant azure/electric blue at the solid base, creating magnificent plays of light and refractions depending on the angle.
Material and Finish: Solid Murano artistic glass, handcrafted. The surface is perfectly smooth and polished, enhancing the transparency and purity of the crystal that envelops the internal colors.
