Pressed, opalescent molded glass vase.
The Bacchantes vase is one of Lalique's iconic creations. It is one of the few pieces whose presence in the catalog has been continuous since its creation in 1927. Initially made of glass, it has been produced in crystal since 1947.
René Lalique was inspired by the representation of the female body throughout his career. The Bacchantes correspond to the Maenads of Greek mythology. Here, the young priestesses of Bacchus form a circle of sculptural nudes in bas-relief, their sensuality unsettling, and dance to celebrate the god of wine, the vine, and excess.
