Discover the timeless charm of this beautiful magenta hand-painted porcelain trinket box, a perfect blend of elegance and artistry. On the exterior lid is an exquisite hand-painted scene, likely inspired by classical or pastoral themes. The central image portrays two figures set within a serene outdoor landscape. On the left, a reclining individual, draped in white, appears to be resting or asleep near a rock. On the right, another figure, dressed in a flowing red garment, is depicted gesturing as if speaking or offering a comforting presence. The background reveals softly blended trees and a pastoral setting, evoking a sense of tranquility and natural beauty.
The artwork is framed by an opulent magenta border embellished with intricate gilt detailing, including stylized gold leaves and a delicate, scalloped pattern. This craftsmanship not only highlights the luxury of the piece but also its historical charm, making it a fine example of decorative artistry on porcelain.
Measuring 3.5 inches wide, 2.5 inches deep, and 2 inches high, this exquisite piece is the ideal size for storing your most cherished keepsakes. Good antique condition with no chips or damage. There is some wear to the gold gilding, particularly to the ball feet. Please review the photos for further condition assessment.
The bottom has a hand painted beehive symbol. Beehive, Austria, or Beehive, Vienna, are terms used in English-speaking countries to refer to the many types of decorated porcelain bearing a mark that looks like a beehive. The mark is actually a shield, viewed upside down. The beehive mark was an adaptation of the center of the Hapsburg family coat-of-arms. It was first used in 1744 by the Royal Porcelain Manufactory of Vienna. The firm made porcelains, called Royal Vienna by collectors, until it closed in 1864.
Whether displayed on a vanity, mantel, or shelf, this trinket box makes a stunning decorative accent and a thoughtful gift for collectors or lovers of fine antiques. Its rich colors, intricate details, and practical versatility ensure it will be a cherished addition to any home.
