A large bonze box (based on the size, it is likely a card case) by French Parisian art jewelry designer … Read more A large bonze box (based on the size, it is likely a card case) by French Parisian art jewelry designer Line Vautrin (1913-1997) circa 1950s. The box features an interesting design in which stylized hinges were folded over on the edges and corners and fastened by flattened rivet heads. The play of the hardware commonly seen in medieval carpentry render a relief frieze around the piece and a mysterious appearance that invites one to open the box. The interior is unlined, with one side smoothly finished and the other left naturally unpolished in keeping with the aesthetic. Signed "Line Vautrin" on the base as shown. A cork line for under the cover is present but it appears to be a later replacement.
