This exceptional antique roll top secretary desk is crafted from solid quarter-sawn oak, celebrated for its dramatic tiger stripe grain (commonly referred to as tiger oak) and shimmering medullary ray fleck visible across the roll top, drawer fronts, and case sides.
Based on construction details, materials, and design elements, this piece dates to the early 20th century, circa 1900-1915, a period when quarter-sawn oak was widely favored for its durability, stability, and refined visual character.
The smoothly curved roll top opens to reveal a generous writing surface and interior storage. The lower section features multiple drawers fitted with original decorative brass pulls and a cabinet door adorned with a hand-carved floral motif, reflecting subtle Arts & Crafts influence. Raised panel sides, molded edges, and substantial oak construction speak to the quality craftsmanship of the era.
The desk comes with the original key. The key operates the lower cabinet door lock, while the drawer locking mechanism is fixed in place and non-functional, meaning the drawers do not lock. All drawers open and slide smoothly.
Resting on original caster feet, the piece rolls easily while remaining structurally solid. The warm golden oak tones and authentic patina give this desk a timeless presence suitable for a study, library, or thoughtfully curated interior.
This is a true tiger oak desk (quarter-sawn oak), not an exotic-tiger wood species.
