This charming antique portrait print depicts a young girl seated in period dress, rendered with soft, painterly detail and subtle hand coloring. Canadienne. The image is executed as a mezzotint, a printmaking technique prized for its velvety tonal depth and ability to mimic the richness of painting. The gentle coloration, delicate facial features, and pastoral background give the piece a distinctly early 19th-century aesthetic.

The print is housed in its original gilt wood frame with visible age, layered gesso, and worn gilding that adds depth and authenticity. The hand-drawn, multi-line matting in muted sage, cream, and warm ochre tones complements the artwork beautifully and appears period appropriate. On the lower margin, the inscription reads “Engraved in pure mezzotint, printed in colour at one printing,” indicating a higher-quality production method. The verso shows early nails and an original backing, further supporting its age. The piece remains under glass and has not been disturbed.
