Handcrafted Japanese Shibayama-style cylindrical vase or decorative container, featuring a figural scene beneath flowering branches rendered in carved and applied shell inlay on a textured dark ground. The body is carved from solid wood with mixed natural inlay materials typical of Shibayama export work.
This piece shows age-appropriate vertical splitting to the wood body, a common and expected characteristic in hollow wooden Shibayama objects. There is also surface wear and scattered inlay loss consistent with age and handling. Structurally stable and visually striking.
Likely late Meiji to Taishō period or later export production in the Shibayama tradition. Unsigned.
A strong sculptural accent suitable for shelf, console, or cabinet display.
