HISTORY

Originally trained as a mosaic artist, Percz later created bronze objects of applied art, which were thematically drawn from the world of fairy tales, folk art, and myths. His sculptures and jewelry shaped dancing figures and animals, and his room dividers and wall decorations decorated public spaces such as the prestigious Hotel Budapest Gellért and Debrecen railway station waiting room. His contemporary, Sándor Bálint, considered Percz a revolutionary forerunner of modern interior design.

In the 1960s, János traveled abroad having individual and group exhibitions in Stockholm, Helsinki, Rome and London. His awareness and openness to European trends led him to the world of artistic, unique metal arts during that time. In the seventies, his sculpture becomes more expressive and his works hammered with iron nails bear witness to the influence of Günther Uecker. Percz’s final exhibition took place in 1979, in Szeged, Hungary. From the eighties until his death, he lived in seclusion, and his art was partially forgotten. See less
