A Fine and Rare Antique Flow-Blue Gaudy Decorated Ironstone Waste Bowl, Staffordshire, England 1840's
Made in the Staffordshire district of Stole on Trent, England, circa 1840's
Ironstone, decorated with flow blue, and gaudy decorations. Made for the Pennsylvania Dutch market, around Lancaster, Lebanon and Berks Counties in the 2nd and 3rd quarter of the 19th century.
Waste bowls are very rare and hard to find. Hand painted decoration over glaze, with under glaze "Flow Blue" decorations. Pink lustre banding on the top edge, and highlights in the floral decorations.
Size: 3 3/4" tall, 5 1/4" across.
Condition: overall Excellent condition. Light wear from use and age. 2 chips on the foot rim and "in the making" likely from what the piece was removed from the kiln stilts after the firing process. A piece of "extra" clay from the making process inside the vessel, under glaze, on the interior, not really a flaw, but kinda neat.
