A museum-quality specimen of mid-19th-century Chinese Export Porcelain in the highly coveted Rose Mandarin style.
This exceptional 11.5-inch "Chop Plate" (Small Charger) represents the peak of Guangzhou (Canton) artistry during the Qing Dynasty. Unlike standard Rose Medallion, this piece is classified as Rose Mandarin due to the extreme detail and focus on human figures within its four domestic panels.
The painting is of superior caliber: the figures feature finely rendered facial expressions, individual strands of hair, and intricate robes—hallmarks of a master artist. The lush green "brocade" borders are meticulously hand-painted with traditional butterflies and floral motifs, symbolizing longevity and joy.
Collector’s Notes:
• Pre-1890 Origin: The reverse is completely unmarked with an unglazed foot rim, dating it definitively to the pre-McKinley Tariff era (pre-1890).
• Superior Gilding: Features heavy, hand-applied gold leaf in the central medallion and borders. The gold remains remarkably vibrant, with a thickness rarely seen in export ware of this age.
• Authentic Texture: The glaze exhibits a classic "orange-peel" pitting and a slight greenish-celadon tint on the reverse, characteristic of 19th-century atmospheric firing.
• Condition: Excellent Antique Condition.

The plate is structurally perfect with no chips, cracks, or professional restorations. The enamels remain vibrant and visibly raised to the touch. Gold gilding is remarkably well-preserved with only the slightest age-appropriate thinning at the extreme rim. Passed the "ring test" with a clear, resonant tone. less
