This work depicts an amber bust … Read more A 2004 art glass sculpture by the American glass artist Richard Jolley (born 1952). This work depicts an amber bust of a male figure with curly tousled hair. The bust has a clear glass circle accent behind it, creating a halo-like effect. The sculpture is signed and dated verso.

Richard Jolley studied glassmaking at Tusculum College in Greenville, Tennessee and later at the George Peabody College, receiving his B.F.A. from there in 1970. He continued his studies at the Penland School of Crafts. He went on to build a studio in 1975 in Knoxville which he has maintained since its opening. Through his collections of glass sculpture, Jolley explores the shapes and movement of the human figure, inspired by the ancient Greek kouroi as well as more recent artists including Henry Matisse and Pablo Picasso. His works have been exhibited widely, including at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; the Renwick Gallery, Washington D.C.; among others. See less
