This beautiful and rare set of six antique french enamel kitchen canisters, manufactured by aubecq, showcases a striking art deco style, estimated to be from the 1920-1930 period.
aubecq company history & significance:
founded in 1917 by octave aubecq in northern france, the aubecq company was a prominent and enduring producer of high-quality french enamelware. The design of this set, marked "aubecq déposé" on the base, is highly valued by collectors for its rare, hexagonal shape and bold art deco geometric pattern, which epitomizes the decorative trends of the early 20th century. These pieces are a charming representation of french domestic history.
color & pattern
the canisters are unified by a distinct geometric pattern executed in a classic two-tone enamel: a warm, glossy brown/terracotta contrasting sharply with white. Each tin is labeled in french with bold lettering indicating its contents: sucre (sugar), farine (flour), café (coffee), pâtes (pasta/noodles), thé (tea), and poivre (pepper).
styling & condition
the set is a graduated collection, with heights increasing from the smallest (poivre) to the largest (sucre). They are in good used condition, showing the authentic signs of their age and history. The spots of patina, minor chips, and wear are consistent with antique enamelware and only serve to add to their unique character and charm.
