Called a firescreen, it is not meant to put in front of a burning fire, rather, meant to hide something not beautiful like a blackened Fireplace! Created to set this art in front of something unsightly.
Please note, this is. very old, Victorian, worn, and stunningly beautiful peace. It is not perfect. The red velvet has two spots shown, but the actual bird embroidered on the red velvet is in perfect condition. Bird has a glass eyeball (obviously, plastic was not invented yet!) The Back shows the perfection of the needlework as well. The camel-colored back Velvet also has wear; must be indicative of the purity of the fabric..
The bamboo frame is real bamboo, not wood imitation bamboo. It’s in remarkable shape for its age and structurally very sound. It can stand up on its own without issue. However, the way it was constructed is the bamboo sets into holes so you cannot pick it up at the top like a handle (the bamboo in hole is peg in hole construction). You must pick it up from the two sides to move it around a room. I have not moved it much and am very careful with it hence it’s absolutely perfect construction. This came out of a Victorian home in Pacific Heights, San Francisco. It is stunning, one of a kind, unparalleled beauty.
