Chinese framed porcelain Buddhist temple plaque of the seated Buddha, a finely drawn depiction of The Buddha, seated in padmasana … Read more Chinese framed porcelain Buddhist temple plaque of the seated Buddha, a finely drawn depiction of The Buddha, seated in padmasana on a lotus pad throne, with the ushnisha, urna and long earlobes, having an ornate halo, topped by a flaming vajra, and a mandorla surrounded by branching peonies. His right hand is in Shuni Mudra and his left hand is in Abaya Mudra. His leafy, lotus pad throne rests on an ornate altar of Buddhist, ritual symbols and offerings, with a dragon at the center flanked by Fu lions. Below the altar is a landscape of two riverbanks and a rushing stream supporting a sacred bowl of further Buddhist offerings surrounded by branching, leafy flowers and Buddhist symbols. All the artwork is done in fine gilt line drawing on a red ground throughout. The signature, with two seal marks, is carved to the lower left and two large, seal marks are seen at the top of the image and one at the lower right. The plaque is mounted in its original, Chinese, huali mu frame, made with fine Chinese joinery and a bronze hanger. The back is intact and removable. Circa Republic of China era or earlier.
