This rare and evocative aquatint etching by Ernst Fuchs, Sphinx Mystagoga, is the sixth plate from the 1967 folio Die Sieben Bilder und Sprüche der Sphinx, published by Galerie Sydow in Frankfurt. Limited to an edition of just 99, this impression is hand-signed and numbered "63/99" by the artist in pencil.
Fuchs, a co-founder of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism, blends intricate detail, rich coloration, and mystical symbolism in this work.
