Refined English Regency–period mahogany writing or sofa table, early 19th century, featuring a beautifully figured, book-matched mahogany top with fine crossbanding and line inlay. The rectangular top rests above a shallow frieze fitted with three drawers, each retaining turned wooden knobs and original key escutcheons.
The table stands on elegant saber legs terminating in original cast brass paw feet, a distinctive and desirable Regency detail, joined by a turned stretcher for added stability. The brass feet show a soft, naturally aged patina consistent with early 19th-century examples and complement the rich warmth of the mahogany.
An excellent and versatile antique suitable for use as a writing table, library desk, or sofa table.
