The labelled and numbered intaglios are beautifully mounted on a plush black ground in a rectangular Gonçalo Alves glazed box frame and comprises portrait busts of Roman Emperors from the Capitoline Museum in Rome surrounded by impressions of antique gems, including a composition after Thorvaldsen. Emperors featured: Augustus, Tiberius, Caligular, Claudius, Nero, Gailba, Otho, Vitellius, Vespasian, Titus, Domitian, Nerva and Trajan. With smaller Hadrian, Antoninus Pius and Commodus.
