The base of this piece is solid wood. The outer portion has the squares appropriate for chess or checkers and the inner portion has a playfield appropriate for backgammon...3 games in 1! But it is much more than a gaming / entertainment piece. It is beautifully and ornately hand made with inlaid micro marquetry mosaic technics in Moorish patterns and moroccan motifs - the craftsmanship is intricate and unbelievable. When not in use the game board folds (via hinges) into a convenient box that holds the playing pieces inside and closes securely via brass latch. The set includes a full set of hand carved wooden backgammon and checkers pieces, 2 pairs of dice, 1 doubling cube, and 2 dice cups. No chess pieces are included but there is plenty of space to house them inside of the box if you wish to add them.
