Featuring a sunset landscape with palm trees in soft pastel tones, finished with a gilt rim. Backstamped “Hand Painted Nippon,” dating this piece to the Meiji–Taishō export period. A beautiful example of early 20th-century Japanese porcelain made for the American market. Ideal for display or decorative use. 9 inches in diameter
During the Nippon export era (1891–1921), Japanese porcelain was hand painted to meet American demand for artisan-made decorative objects. Skilled painters applied each scene individually, allowing for subtle variation and a softer, more artistic finish than transfer-printed wares. These pieces were created primarily for display in parlors and china cabinets rather than everyday use.
