Woven in the Oushak region of Western Turkey in the 1980s, this large village kilim brings bold graphic energy to a room with its stepped diamond medallions and rhythmic zigzag bands. Handwoven entirely in wool by Yörük villagers for their own household rather than export, it bridges traditional Anatolian craft with a surprisingly modern, almost mid-century sense of color, making it an easy statement piece for living rooms, open-plan spaces, or creative studios.
Across the field, a chain of large diamonds runs through the center while echoing chevrons ripple toward the edges, creating movement that pulls furniture groupings together and anchors the space visually. The piece is in vintage unused “chest” condition with crisp, saturated colors and a supple, flat handle that sits comfortably under furniture and doors. As with all genuine handwoven village kilims, the outline is not a perfectly machine-rectangular shape, so small natural irregularities and gentle waviness along the edges are present and are part of its authenticity. Professionally cleaned and completely odorless, it is ready to roll out and enjoy.

✨ Color Palette & Design Insight
This kilim reads as joyful and dynamic without feeling chaotic, combining village warmth with a clean, graphic look that suits boho, eclectic, and mid-century-inspired interiors just as well as more minimal, neutral spaces. The bold pattern becomes a natural focal point on wood floors or pale stone, while the lighter tones keep the room bright.
• saturated tangerine orange bands that animate the medallion chain
• dusty rose, soft madder red, and blush stepping through the zigzags
• pale mint and light pistachio greens softening the stronger hues
• lavender, lilac, and deeper plum accents in select central diamonds
• warm cream and butter tones keeping the piece airy rather than heavy
• charcoal and brown-black outlines sharpening the geometry and giving definition
✨ Motifs & Symbolism
The composition is built around a sequence of large stepped diamond medallions, framed by echoing diamonds and zigzag bands that run from end to end. In Anatolian weaving, diamonds are often understood as protective “eyes,” believed to watch over the household and guard against misfortune. The stair-step edges hint at mountains and pathways, associated with life’s journey and the movement of people and herds, while the continuous zigzag bands evoke flowing water and energy. Together, these motifs create a feeling of protection, vitality, and continuity that resonates both visually and symbolically in a contemporary interior.
