Portrait of an English Long Faced Tumbler pigeon. The breed is quite old and has its origins in England and dates back to some time before 1735. It is considered to be a very strong flier and like many fancy pigeon breeds, descends from the Rock pigeon.
This work is part of Brendan Burden's Fancy Pigeons series. This series explores the unexpected and often under-appreciated beauty of the lowly pigeon. Through the use of formal portrait techniques, the pigeon is presented with an esteem normally reserved for less humble subjects. This unconventional contrast provides a new perspective on something many people see every day and give little consideration to.
