This vintage figural corkscrew was produced by the Syracuse Ornamental Company, commonly known as Syroco, and is often referred to as the “Waiter” or “Louie the Bar Butler” design. The figure depicts a smiling waiter dressed in a tuxedo and apron, holding a towel and bottle, a popular novelty barware form produced during the mid-20th century. These corkscrews were made using SyrocoWood, a compression-molded composite of wood powder and thermoset resin developed as an alternative to carved wood.
The head of the figure lifts off to reveal a functional metal corkscrew and bottle opener housed inside the body, with metal components supplied by the Williamson Company. Examples like this were produced primarily during the 1940s–1950s and are well-known collectibles in vintage barware and Syroco novelty items. A classic mid-century decorative and functional piece with strong display appeal.
