New York: Bureau of National Literature, Inc., 1897-1925. 20 volume set, plus 1 supplement. 8vo. 9445 pp. Fine binding in full black pebble grain leatherette, gilt spines, slight-light wear at extremities, gilt upper leaf edges, illustrated with tissue-guarded color frontispieces, over 300 black and white illustrations. Set includes illustrated encyclopedic and biographic indexes, plus latter supplement; Harding/Coolidge, 1925. Each of the 20 volume set labeled with ex-libris bookplate, "Presented to - Andrew MacKenzie - Moore - By his Father and - Mother in recog- - nition of his - graduation from - the University of - California - May 11, - 1921." Near fine - very good +.

Provenance: Property of Andrew M. Moore (AM) (1897-1921), 1320 Arch Street, Berkeley, CA, scion of the Moore Shipbuilding Company (1917-1961). He was a member of the '21 class of the University of California, degree from the college of letters and science. AM was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity, the Skull and Keys, the Winged Helmet societies and the University Glee Club. He tragically died June 2nd 1921 from a heart attack, less than a month post commencement. AM spent the weekend at a house party on the Russian River with a group of fraternity brothers. When he returned on Monday he complained that he was not well. His death occurred at 5 am ("College Student Dies from Heart Attack" Oakland Tribune, June 2, 1921) See less
