A gorgeous antique French bookcase cabinet, unusually SLENDER profile, yet very tall and majestic (almost 8. ft.) and covered with beautiful hand carvings! High carved upper crown features an open pediment with center oval cartouche . Upper cabinet has large, stepped out carved triple moulding above a wide carved frieze that features a dimensional carved mask amid carved foliate scrolls, with carved keystone corners on either side. Full length barley twist columns flank the large door that features upper glass framed with dome shaped carved trim. Lower door panel has hand carved painting instruments . Large drawer below the door has fully carved front and dimensional carved mask handle. Four removable shelves with carved edges, are adjustable upon the original notched wood supports inside. Quality throughout with dovetailed joinery. Solid oak, heavy and strong, well built by craftsmen of the period. Circa 1880. See less
