This style of painting was popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The image consists of a single villager walking downhill to a distant village offering scale and narrative. Simple architectural forms encompass the scene of everyday rural life giving depth and perspective. Expressive visible, brushstrokes are depicted in primarily earth tones of cream, tan warm browns, muted greens and soft grays with the white billowy clouds and blue sky. A rough hewn rustic style dark gray solid wood frame surrounds the painting with a 2 inch depth. Hanging hardware is included and it is signed, "Joyce Keefner, 1965."
