Lovely watercolor of the Redwoods on the Hihn Lumber property near Richdale in Corralitos, California by Lillian Minerva Magill Pardee (Minnie) (American, 1859-1936). married George Pardee in 1888 she lived on East Lake Avenue in Watsonville the George was a pioneer resident and started as a Watermelon farmer and then insurance. Minnie lived on Eastlake until 1919 and then moved to Oakland, California. Her California State Library card dated 1888 lists her as an artist.

Dedication on Verso "Painted by" "Mother Pardee" "Minnie McGill Pardee Watsonville Calif." "Scene in the Hihn Lumber above Richdale (Corralitos) Viola was with her the day she painted this" the dedication was most like written by her daughter Myra.
Born in Rock Island, IL on Oct. 31, 1859. While visiting in Watsonville, CA in 1888, "Minnie" Magill wed George Thayer Pardee, a prosperous dealer in farm imports. After her marriage she studied art in San Francisco with Wm Keith and others. The Pardee home in Watsonville was a large farm house at 22 Fourth Street on the corner of Main. There she gave art lessons to aspiring young artists, among them Lillie May Nicholson. Primarily a watercolorist, she also worked in oil and painted china. Mrs. Pardee died in Oakland, CA on Nov. 21, 1936. Exh: Calif. State Fair, 1891.
