Measuring a staggering 26 inches across, it features an incredible scalloped "pie crust" rim, a detail that requires immense skill to hammer evenly on such a massive scale. The surface retains much of its original tinned finish (Kalai), giving it a luminous, silvery-champagne hue that is softer than raw copper. The center features a finely engraved geometric medallion surrounded by concentric bands of delicate etching. It is heavy, rigid, and absolutely breathtaking. Sourced from Kashmir, India this massive charger reflects a strong historical influence. In the late 19th century, a tray of this magnitude would have served as a "Dastarkhwan"—a movable dining table for communal feasts where royalty or honored guests would sit on the floor around it. The scalloped edge is a stylized representation of a lotus or sunburst, symbolizing abundance and hospitality.
