designed by carlo moretti
origin italy
period 1970s
brand carlo moretti (1934–2008) was a master glassmaker and innovator born on the island of murano, in the heart of the venetian glassmaking tradition, and a central figure in the evolution of murano artistic glass after world war ii. Passionate about art, culture, and design, moretti combined his historical knowledge of glassmaking with a sensitivity to contemporary language, creating a body of work that balanced formal rigor and technical experimentation. Together with his brother giovanni, he founded the carlo moretti company in 1958, a business that stood out for its essential lines, crystalline quality, and research into materials, gaining a place in major international museums and private collections. His work was not limited to production: moretti was also a leading figure in the modernization of murano techniques and the spread of murano glass throughout the world, pursuing a balance between artisan tradition and contemporary design that marked one of the most significant periods in 20th-century italian glassmaking. After his sudden death in 2008, giovanni continued the business until his own passing, consolidating the brothers' legacy as a benchmark for modern glass.
