This masterpiece belongs to the period when Aureliano Toso was in direct artistic dialogue—and subtle competition—with Gio Ponti, who at the time was experimenting with similar canne compositions at Venini.

The present vase embodies the bold innovation of those years: a hypnotic, swirling arrangement of turquoise, red, and white cane threads, creating a dynamic, almost kinetic surface that shifts under natural light. The optical effect is mesmerizing—lines appear to move, twist, and merge, giving the vase an extraordinary sense of motion. Beyond its spectacular coloration, the vase distinguishes itself through its remarkable thickness and weight, evidence of the exceptional craftsmanship required to maintain structural integrity while manipulating dozens of extremely thin glass rods into a seamless spiral. When illuminated—whether by sunlight or artificial light—the vase projects intricate reflections that dance across surrounding surfaces, a signature characteristic of only the finest canne work.
