An antique Chinese bowl with a hand worked pewter casing over a fine crackle ceramic. It has a very rich look.
A ceramic bowl with a fine crackle glaze has been fitted into a pewter bowl with engraved Chinese characters, bamboo, and prunus branches. The glaze on the bowl is a pale pearl gray with a very fine crackle. The pewter is thick and has a shine. The foot is covered by pewter but the base shows the fine crackle ceramic.
MEASUREMENTS
7 ¾ in (19.7 cm) diameter x 2 ½ in (6.4 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 10.4 oz.
CONDITION
There are no breaks, chips, cracks, or repairs. There are two small dents in the pewter at the mouth and slight glue residue under the mouth rim at the junction of the pewter and the ceramic. There is a light brown stain in the well of the bowl.
The combination of the subtle, cracked pearl-gray ceramic and the richly engraved, thick pewter creates a truly opulent statement piece.
