With our highest compliments and utmost honors, Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this exceptional Antique Queen Anne Tiger Maple Table,. This is a New England table, made in the late 18th to early 19th century. The table exhibits superior figured Tiger Maple, refined proportions, and an untouched surface consistent with genuine period workmanship.
This table represents a particularly fine example of rural Queen Anne design. The top, with striking natural curls, displays a deep amber patina developed over more than two centuries. The surface remains in as-found condition, with minor age splits & dark circular marks which we really don’t mind as we feel it only attests to its authenticity and prolonged domestic use.
Raised on four elegant tapered legs terminating in delicate pad feet, the form reflects a transitional aesthetic bridging late Queen Anne sensibilities and the emerging Federal preference for lighter, more attenuated silhouettes. The joinery, leg shaping, and apron configuration align closely with documented examples from Connecticut and Massachusetts workshops of the 1780–1810 period, where tiger maple was more commonly encountered and expertly worked. The table’s harmonious proportions, coupled with its arresting figure, suggest it was intended as a multipurpose household table suitable for tea service, writing, or light dining. Its survival in such honest, unrestored condition is quite remarkable.
This piece stands as a compelling example for both collectors and scholars of early American furniture, uniting rare material, superior craftsmanship, and an early untouched surface. Its visual presence and structural integrity make it equally suitable for advanced collections, period interiors, or discerning contemporary settings. The table measures 35 1/2” wide x 27 1/4” deep x 26 3/4” tall.
