Handwoven in the Kars region of Eastern Anatolia on Turkey’s Caucasian border, this extra-long wool kilim runner brings strong tribal geometry into a contemporary-feeling layout. Woven in the 1970s for village use, it combines stepped medallions, latch-hook outlines and lively side motifs that read almost like abstract modernist blocks of color when placed in a hallway, gallery-style corridor or galley kitchen. The flat weave keeps doors clearing easily while still feeling substantial and soft underfoot.
Down the length of the rug, a chain of bold central medallions creates a clear visual axis that naturally guides the eye through a space. The vegetable-dyed reds and oranges are balanced by calm gray and brown areas in undyed sheep’s wool, while black and fuchsia accents add graphic punch. The runner is vintage but unused and presents in very good condition; like many authentic village-woven Kars kilims it is not perfectly rectangular and shows a noticeable handmade skew, reinforcing its character and provenance. Professionally cleaned, odorless and ready to install in a hallway, entry, kitchen or along a stair with expert finishing.

✨ Color Palette & Design Insight
The palette is bold, warm and energetic, ideal for adding statement color to otherwise neutral corridors, kitchens or staircases. Strong geometry and saturated tones give it a graphic, almost mid-century edge that also layers beautifully with eclectic boho or rustic farmhouse interiors.
• Deep madder red and wine tones forming the main field
• Glowing tangerine and burnt orange in the large central medallions
• Soft stone and charcoal grays from natural undyed wool for grounding contrast
• Inky black outlines sharpening the stepped geometric forms
• Vivid fuchsia, magenta and raspberry accents in side motifs and the central panel
• Small notes of ivory, olive, mustard and leaf green in the border for lively, rhythmic breaks
✨ Motifs & Symbolism
This runner is organized around a chain of large stepped central medallions, a classic Caucasian-influenced Kars layout symbolizing stability and protection in the home. Ram’s horn hooks extend from these medallions, traditionally associated with strength, courage and prosperity. Smaller diamonds and lozenges scattered through the field echo protective eye motifs and wishes for safe passage along life’s journey—fitting for a piece that literally leads you down a hallway. Star and rosette-like emblems at the sides suggest light, guidance and continuity, while the multicolored border of X and crossforms frames everything like a woven talisman belt, visually tying together the length of the rug and reinforcing its energetic, celebratory mood.
